Strikepoint Hunting

When I sat down to write out an About page, for the first time, I really stopped to consider what the driving point of this site is. The answer, boiled down to its purest form, is soul.

My goal is to have a place to share my faith through devotionals, even though I feel wholly inadequate to do so, to have a place to hopefully entertain, to have a place to pass on knowledge gained over a lifetime of bowhunting, and to have a place where each of those things can be respectfully discussed. I don’t particularly agree with the whole “hunt quiet” premise but I do feel there is value in discretion. For that reason, much of the site content will only be available through a modest membership.

I feel, as a broad strokes general statement, hunting television, YouTube, social media outlets, and technology have pushed hunting away from its roots. That’s not to say it’s all bad because I have drawn inspiration, made friends, and seen kindred spirits in many people I likely would have never known of, if not for social media. However, over time, the push has been steadily moving towards what is the easiest way for me to kill the biggest buck as far and as fast as possible. Hunting is losing its soul.

If you are wondering about the name Strikepoint, it has nothing to do with some tacticool concept. I am almost exclusively a bowhunter and as a bowhunter, I am an ambush predator. One thing all ambush predators have in common is their survival comes down to getting close and striking accurately. Getting close will be encouraged heavily because that is where the story is built and the story is the soul, the legacy of hunting.

As a Christian, I am charged with bringing others to Christ. I often struggle with just how to go about that. Arguably, my favorite verse is Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine majesty – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” The more time I spend engaged with creation, the more the lessons in the Bible make sense. For me, they go hand in hand. I can only pray the sharing of my faith will resonate with at least one person. If it helps one person find or strengthen their walk, this will all be worth it.

So what is this place about? It’s about building a community of likeminded hunters, it’s about building and encouraging faith in Jesus, it’s about telling the story because the story is where the soul is.

My Mission

Represent Christ and other hunters to the best of my ability.

Belief Statements

I believe that God's creation is the ultimate sanctuary, where pursuing game, the right way, sharpens our character, deepens our faith, and connects us to Him.

I believe we have a responsibility to care for the land and the wildlife so future generations may experience what we so dearly love.

I believe the discipline and patience required of a good hunter can strengthen your walk with Christ.

And finally, I believe we can foster an authentic community rooted in fellowship and shared values when we share the harvest and the campfire.

quotes

“A peculiar virtue in wildlife ethics is that the hunter ordinarily has no gallery to applaud or disapprove of his conduct.”
